Suppose you have a document in English and need this document translated in Spanish is called Translation. Now you speak English and want some one to translate whatever you are talking in English to Spanish, its called interpretation.

If you deal with writing - it's translation; if you deal with speach - it's interpreting. I study it at my university and must point out that sometimes I'm overloaded with the tons of homework so it was a relief when I found essay examples on homework-lab.

Meaning may depend on context. When used in muslim context, translation means authoritive while interpreting is not authoritive. Muslims believer that their holy text cannot be translated. So any transfer to another language of this text is considered an interpretation, in the sense of non-authoritive approximation of a translation.
