Guideline for using software licenses

Hello everybody,
I0m in the process of start software tracking into GLPI. For several reason, we decided not to import (at least for now) software from OCSNG but simply manage software and licenses only within GLPI.

What I'm missing is the difference between INSTALL SOFTWARE (which require to define also a VERSION) and ADD LICENSE.
For now I smply need something to track license usage in my company, so I started looking to the LICENSE option only but I'm not sure about this approach.

Can someone clarify what is the logic behind the software, version and licensing items within GLPI?
