Default a Ticket's 'Request Source' via the Simple Interface?

I am trying to default the 'Request Source' of a ticket via the Simple Interface (even though this is not a displayed field via this interface).  I have setup a test user with a 'Request Source' of 'Self-Service' but this does not default the field when a ticket is created via the Simple Interface (it does default the field via the Standard Interface).  Does anyone know how this may be accomplished?  Thanks
