Installation 0.83.7

HI

I'm sorry I'm new to both, GLPI and Linux. I've installed version 0.80 and, when trying to make the update to 0.83 I found that
1.- I downloaded the correct version
2.- I've de-compressed it into the proper folder (/var/www/glpi)
3.- When opening the browser, I cannto find where to press the update button as instructed.

Any help will be appreciated.

Did you uncompress into the GLPI directory?
If so, that is incorrect. It will replace files in the existing GLPI directory.

Thanks, Dan for your response.

I think I did. As I quoted, I'm not a Linux expert at all but I checked that, once the uncompress procedure finished, there's no file into any other folder thant glpi (other than the compressed file) and that the files into glpi folder have the same date than the compressed ones.

What if I delete the glpi folder?

Do you have a glpi folder inside the root glpi folder?

ok....

After the uncompress, if you go to your glpi website, it'll have a setup/upgrade page similar to the initial installation page. If you didn't get that, I can only assume the uncompress didn't go properly.

Make a backup and try again.

My install is a vm, so I make a snaphot before any upgrade.

I've tried several times (at least three).
What if I rename the glpi folder? does it store anything here?

Yes. The GLPI folder is your entire glpi website.

Do you have a linux setup?
If yes, what command did you use to unpack the tar file?
And from what directory did you unpack it from?

Yes, I have a linux setup. Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS according to lsb_release -a

I renamed the glpi folder to glpiant
i unpacked the file glpi-0.83.7.tar.gz using sudo tar xzvf glpi-0.83.7.tar.gz
A new folder called glpi appeared
I called from my web browser as http://[ip address]/glpi
Still showing version 0.80
Restarted apache
Still showing version 0.80
Rebooted the VM
Still showing version 0.80

So sad...

Help? Please?

Just to clairify, you unpacked it to /var/www?
and did you use the hyphen?

tar -xzvf

Have you cleared your browsers cache?

Courious thing is that, I tried now to access http://[ip address]/glpiant and it showed the configuration process. Am I too crazy?

I don't use chrome, but I test with IE and FF and haven't seen that problem.

If you unpacked it properly, then it's most likely a browser issue.

Hi All,

The way I do it is like this.

All your data is stored in the SQL the only thing kept in the www or glpi folder where ever you have put the GLPI software is configs.

First download the latest version 0.83.7
go and get WinCSP if you are using Windows....

unzip the new version to you desktop so you have the GLPI Folder with it's contents.

Now make sure every one is logged out of the working GLPI then rename that folder to glpi.old

Now what I do is use WinCSP login in to the webserver where my GLPI is running and just copy the new folder glpi to the same location.
then permission the GLPI for the write access.

So in the Webserver location you may have something like this

glpi.old
glpi

Now goto the web link now you should get the welcome screen where you can then choose update.

Once done you can then do your configs and custom bits and bobs.

I think that's it... :-)

OK. Now I'm in real trouble.

I renamed glpi to glpi,old as you suggested, Dave So now, If I ls /var/www I got the compressed file I downloaed (forget about htis), a folder called glpi.old and another file called index.html

Now, just because I'm an annoying person, I tried to get into glpi going to http://10.1.7.100/glpi (where 10.1.7.100 is my Ubuntu machine IP address) expecting to get a 404 or something like this.

Can you imagine my surprise when I see glpi up and running? There's obviously something wrong in my Ubuntu. I've checked and
URL I'm using is http://10.1.7.100/glpi/front/central.php
IP adress for Ubuntu (ifconfig) is 10.1.7.100

May be I have to dedicate my efforts to something else

your link should some think like
http://your-ip or DNS Name/glpi/index.php
if this is your www structure.

es, that's the structure and, having renamed glpi folder to glpi.old, I still have access to http://10.1.7.100/glpi/index.php (where 10.1.7.100 is my actual server IP)

In IE, there is a setting in Internet Options to Check for newer versions of stored pages. I have mine set to every time I visit a page and my disk space to use is very low at 10mb. This is for temp Internet files.

If you have no glpi folder in /var/www/ then I would back at your browser to make sure it's not bringing up a cached page.

I'm investigating if this is a GLPI problem or (more likely) something with my Ubuntu installation.

I completely erased the GLPI folder within /var/www but the system still working!..

Finally, the problem has been solved.

I deleted the GLPI folder, purged the installation and installed it again (now 0.83.7)
