mailgate pop slows down apache

Hi all,
I have a test installation of glpi-project mailgate is configured to catch email via pop3 without ssl or tls, the mail server is in the same subnet of glpi-project and is specified as ipaddress. However the pop connection (connection to port 110) slows down also apache, so every request to the system is very slow.
Anyone has experienced similar problems ?

glpi 0.1.7.5,freebsd 7, apache22, mysql51 I have already searched, all browsers, my antivirus is updated, server exchange last version.... and now ?
if you find more useful to point me to a search page, you can also tell me which page, thanks for help anyway...
