hi..
i am new to GLPI kindly help me in adding inventory.
Is there a way to add information about any computer in our network by just providing the IP address to the GLPI system. To say it in more detail can i get all the details of a particular system in the GLPI database automatically by just entering the IP address of the computer in our network. If so how ..?
I am using GLPI 0.71, which is installed in Linux platform but all the computers in our organisation have windows Xp installed.
kindly let me know ASAP...

To do automatic inventory, you should use OCS NG and configure OCSNG mode in GLPI.

hi..
thanks for the help.. but still now my problem is not resolved...
I have installed OCS I ng on the server as well but cannot figure out how and where to provide client IP address so that the system configurations are taken automatically.
on clicking tools-->OSCNG-->import new computers
"no new machines to be imported" is displayed same is the case when i click on " synchronise computers already imported".
elarlier we had a small databse with GLPI wich was added manually one by one.. now we want to add more systems to this existing database through OCSNG...
PLs help...

Have you install the OCS agent on the client ?
Have you computers listed in OCS console ?

our GLPI and OCS NG is installed in Linux and we have nearly 500 client systems in Windows XP. r u saying that we have to install OCS agent in each of those 500 systems..? because we have already installed OCS NG for client in our linux server itself..

Yes the agent must be installed on each computer.
How would you get usefful information about a computer without such an agent ?
OCS Agent => OCS Server (inventory) => GLPI server (asset management)

There are many useful deployment guides on the OCS website. Personally, I prefer startup scripts. But others I know have used group policy.

hi..
thanks for all the help.. but still i am facing some problem while connecting an windows agent to my linux server...
while installing the OCSNG_PACKAGER_1.01 it asks for “Certificate file” which is "cacert.pem file" available in C:\Program Files\OCS Inventory Agent
but there isn't any such file in this location after i installed the OCS Inventory.

The certificate file is something you need to create because it is going to be unique to your network setup.
This is a bit old but still covers it: http://alufis35.uv.es/OCS-Inventory-Pac … yment.html
