We are putting glpi on a newer server and are leaving the database on the previous box. I can not get the GLPI installer to recognize the MYSQL database on the older server.
I get this error:
Can't connect to the database :
The server answered : Can't connect to MySQL server on 'helpdesk' (13)
I can connect to the db fine from the console of the new server, its only through the GLPI installer that I can not connect. The older server used localhost of course and did not have this issue.
Im still learning linux so please bare with me!

I figured it out. It was SElinux preventing apache from connecting to the sql db port.
Then I connected it to the database and it wiped my older database. I wasnt thinking and because they were different versions (old install was 71.3) and I did not choose upgrade, it wiped my existing database. Luckily I had a backup and we just lost a few hours.
Yall need to put a warning on that install script that if you choose a existing database, the data will be wiped if its not the same version. I know it was my fault that it happened (my first foray into a sql based app), but it may be useful for others that do not have a backup job running.
