Re: How to change explorer title

You can change this in the Registry of Windows:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main
if not exist add an REG_SZ with the Name "Window Title", now you can add Text to this Fild. After a reboot you IE Titel will be changed.

Re: How to change explorer title

My purpose was not to know to do this (i don't use windows nor IE) but to ask you if you find this modification normal ?

Do you change Microsoft Word name ?
Do you change IE name ?
Do you change any other commercial application name ?

I would be interested in knowing how to do this:

I would like to remove the browser name and change the "GLPI" to something that means more to our users perhaps something like "Service Desk Portal".  Being English speaking, the acronym "GLPI" doens't make much sense to our users!    Or perhaps we should force them to learn French! wink

I do like it that it does tell you what page you're on though, "Command Centre", "Helpdesk" etc. that is good and I wouldn't want to get rid of that. smile

Regards,
Chris.

Re: How to change explorer title

Just edit  the file inc/display.function... It was not difficult to find it....

I agree with Remi. Is this point essential  and good for the project....

Re: How to change explorer title

I wouldn't say it was essential, but I think that it's a nice customisation option to have.

I use Firefox, but our company has updated the Internet Explorer to title bar to say "IE provided by CompanyName"  I think that a lot of companies do that, just because they can.

Re: How to change explorer title

I understand your point of view. But you have to understand our point of view also.

We are feed up with this kind of request.

We offer you a car and you ask us how to add a flame sticker on each side.

Must we spend our energy about that or to make the car better ?

Re: How to change explorer title

I do fully understand your view JMD.

Some years back I worked with an Open Source project (mostly supporting the users at the sponsor site) and it was always difficult to balance the desires of the users to make what were basically cosmetic changes, with the need to make less visible, but more fundamental code developments.  Some days we felt like it was a waste of time, but the truth is that our work made it much better for everyone else.

Because everyone works in slightly different ways, in version 4 of the software we made customisable views so each user could set up how they like and that was a real bonus, especially when you're out meeting users every day - that made our lives much better too smile  I guess it's a bit different for you guys as you never even know who most the users are or even get to meet them.

I guess there is also the added problem of many users and developers conversing in a language that is not their native tongue - sometimes questions or suggestions may not be translated very easily and this makes the comments sound much more abrupt and less friendly neutral

Please know that all us users really do apreciate the time, effort and skill that you all put into this software, and although most of us have very little coding skill, I'm sure that I'm not the only one who often reads the forum to see if there is someone else that I can help as there are many people who have helped me by what they have written in the forum.

Thanks again smile
Regards.
Chris.
