Edit/Delete asset category

Hi,

How to add/delete the asset's category? Is there an option button for it? Does GLPI have MACD (Modify, Add, Change, Delete on the main menu?

What do you mean by category? You mean deleting the Computer, Monitor, Printer, etc types? No. But you can remove permissions to those types in the Profiles. If a user doesn't have permission to see them, they won't show on the menu.

Yes, I found a plugin named "Objects Management" that supports the MACD category, which does not include the default categories. However, there seems to be an issue when adding multiple categories—they all appear to use the same template when adding components.

How can I edit the necessary details to properly store the components?

When adding a component, it asks for the following details (note: this is displayed in the template when I checked all the Behaviour boxes):

Name
Serial Number
Inventory/Asset Number
Item Location
Status
User
Groups
Manufacturers
Technician in charge of the hardware
Comments

Where can I edit this template to include the important information for the components?

You want to hide the default fields? As far as I know, you can't.

The custom assets feature coming in GLPI 11 (replacement for the plugin) will allow this though.

This is the default template when checking the Behavior checkboxes on adding new item. So how do I add more information fields to it?

Yes. You can create new types of assets and with those custom assets:
- Create new fields
- Hide native fields
- Reorder fields
- Make fields readonly/mandatory based on profile or globally
- Enable "capacities" which add extra functionality

It could be easier to check out the latest nightly "main" release (on a separate GLPI install, not an upgrade of your existing production install!) and test out the new feature in Setup > Asset Definitions.
