What is the correct purpose of entities?

Hi,

I'm evaluating glpi and don't understand the purpose of entities.  So are entities the same as clients (say a company) or a mandator.

And if so, when I only want to manage my own company - did I need entities?

Re: What is the correct purpose of entities?

You probably don't.

Entities are usefull is you want to allow users to see only a part of your asset.

Ah, ok - if I understand anything right, an entity can be a department, say "finance", "engineers" or "dtp". So the finance people are seeing only their PCs, the engineers seeing their Unix computers and a dtp people sees only apple computers. As example.

As an other example: can an entity be a headquarte "munich", an other can be "cologne" and an other one can be "hamburg"?

Is this a right way to use "entities"?
