Error 404 when changing root directory to /public

I already installed GLPI and I'm getting an orange advice suggesting that I should change the root directory to /public, however when I do that on my hosting preferences (Plesk) I basically just get 404 errors. I'm guessing this is absolutely necessary for security reasons, so we need some help with this issue.

please try this command:

sudo chown -R www-data:www-data /var/www/html/glpi/

Which steps did you take to change the document root? Did you follow the section in the installation documentation for this including the steps to configure a rewrite rule?
