Good day to you all,
I have a question regarding permissions on the configuration directory (/etc/glpi).
The installation documentation says:
GLPI configuration will be stored in /etc/glpi, just copy the contents of the config directory to this place. GLPI requires read rights on this directory to work; and write rights during the installation process.
Installation worked for me. Now after the installation I set owner and group for /etc/glpi recursively to root, rwxr-xr-x.
Now in Setup->General->System I saw an exclamation mark stating
Write access to /var/lib/glpi/_cache has been validated. The directory could not be created in /etc/glpi/. Write access to /var/lib/glpi/_cron has been validated. Write access to /var/lib/glpi has been validated. Write access to /var/lib/glpi/_dumps has been validated. Write access to /var/lib/glpi/_graphs has been validated. Write access to /var/lib/glpi/_lock has been validated. Write access to /var/lib/glpi/_pictures has been validated. Write access to /var/lib/glpi/_plugins has been validated. Write access to /var/lib/glpi/_rss has been validated. Write access to /var/lib/glpi/_sessions has been validated. Write access to /var/lib/glpi/_tmp has been validated. Write access to /var/lib/glpi/_uploads has been validated.Write access to /var/lib/glpi/_cache has been validated.
Do I have to reset permissions to allow glpi (www-data) write access on /etc/glpi again? Is the documentation wrong or did I misunderstand anything?
Thank you.

Why was the owner set to root instead of the web server user (www-data)?

because the documentation says, only read access is required for glpi

It should be fine to ignore.
There are a few cases where write access would be required, but I think only during updates. I think the requirements checker could skip checking write access on this folder.

Alright, many thanks for your estimation. I think, I will leave it that way for now.
