Newbie: Physical network configuration

Hi

sorry if that question is to simple, but I just don't get the clue how to manage / set up the physical network setup into my GLPI system.

Intro: The system is - due to limited access rights - not for auto discovery, so everything has to be done by manually or the data injection plugin (to get the user, devices ... into the system). So I have a list of every room on every location (location is city1 > building 2 > room 123). On that location is device dev1 and dev2 (with all relevant information as serial number...), employeer/user user1 and user 2 (linked with a device), display ... So quite helpful and handy.

The only problem is: I have no clue how to easily configure the network. The idea is that I would like to have a list of sockets for every location (room) as patch field B1, B2; B3... int the wall, which I may link to a computer. But if I add a socket (ether by using the socket link under Assets > Cable or by the Seup > Dropdowns > Location) I can add the socket - but as long as I don't connect a device (computer, printer) to it it is not shown as a root element and I can't edit it afterwards.

Is there somewhere a kind of noob-proof tutorial / HowTo how to set up such configuration? Manage the conterpart (patch field and switch in the technical room) would be perfect smile

Hope that this post isn't too confusing and I might get a reply smile

Best regards

Thomas
