Hi,
I want to use GLPI with a barcode scanner to register items in and out of a storage.
For example I want to be able to scan the barcode of an item and the barcode of the employee who is going to use it, and get a registration that will have the name of the employee who has the specific item as well as the time and date he took it.
Then when he returns it (again with scanning the barcodes) there will be a similar registration of the item with date and time returned.
Is that possible using GLPI?

This isn't in GLPI itself currently, but this is possible with plugins.
The "Camera Input" plugin adds a button next to the global search field, text fields in the search builder, and some other places that opens a barcode scanner. It does not currently add a button next to the User field in a form though. This only works in your GLPI is hosted using HTTPS since browsers don't give access to cameras on plain HTTP sites though.

For a quick check-in/check-out process, there used to be a "Physical Inventory" plugin but it hasn't been officially updated since GLPI 9.1. Using the global search though is probably the next best thing as you can search there for any asset type and be able to open its form quickly. There is no return date field in GLPI itself or the old physical inventory plugin but you can use reservations, the physical inventory date field in the Management tab, or just change the assigned user in the User field, or a mix of these options to track assignments.
If you are looking for a more streamlined process and are OK with financially supporting its development, you can contact the GLPI Network for a custom plugin/feature development.
