GLPI Inventory - clarify Preparation timeslot vs Execution timeslot

Hi,
Using GLPI 10.0.1, and GLPI Inventory plugin 1.0.1, in Administration -> GLPI Inventory -> Tasks -> Task Management, i'm not understanding the difference between "Preparation timeslot" and "Execution timeslot".

I have a windows task scheduler calling \front\cron.php every 1 minute, but if i just want to perform a simple network discovery every day at 0700, and also at 1300, i have setup the time slots for this, but am i using this time slot against  the "Preparation timeslot" or "Execution timeslot", or Both ?

and should i check, or uncheck the "Re-prepare a target-actor"

Thanks

Re: GLPI Inventory - clarify Preparation timeslot vs Execution timeslot

Hi supertramp4,

a task must be prepared before it is run. This is really important on huge scans. So you should have slots to prepare before each run and set that slot as "Preparation timeslot". Then use your expected scheduling for task run as "Execution timeslot".

You may check the "Re-prepare a target actor", but maybe this is not necessary in your context (as having a preparation timeslot). So you should probably make a try without.

Re: GLPI Inventory - clarify Preparation timeslot vs Execution timeslot

Hi,
Can you also clarify at what point should the job execution should show "prepared"

If i have timeslots set to run every 4 hours ( 08:00, 12:00, 16:00 ), and the re-prepare agent is ticked then if the current time is 07:00, should the job execution be showing "prepared" ?

Also if i press Force start, should that then show "prepared" ( as it doesn't )

I still find this interface very confusing for something that should be so easy. All i am trying to do is Discover, and then inventory 3 times a day for a small number of items  on the network ( < 20 )

Can you confirm if the following setup should work ? ( the same actor is used for both Discover, and Inventory, and the modules are enabled on the agent )

Item.............Discover Task......Inventory Task
Re-prepare       Checked            Checked
Active              Checked            Checked
Sched Start     Not set               Not Set
Sched End      Not set               Not Set
Prep Time     0800-0815           0830-0845
                   1200-1215           1230-1245
                   1600-1615           1630-1645
Exec Time      Not Set               Not Set
Agent Wake   1 min                  1 min
No# Agents    None                   None

SNMP Credentials set correctly
In Inventory, the Inventory frequency (in hours) = 1 Hour

Hi supertramp4,

you still have to be sure:
- glpi cron task is working
- the snmp credentials are also associated to the ip range

Hi SuperTramp4.

Did you succed to do what you wanted?
I try to accomplish something similar as you and it always stuck at preparing....
Agree with you, it very confusing.

What does mean the prepare state? What happens during this phase? How long it should be ?

Thanks for help !

Re: GLPI Inventory - clarify Preparation timeslot vs Execution timeslot

Hi majxty,
No I did not, and worse I have given up trying to use it.

All I want is some clear instructions as to how I can scan the network at say 9am, 12, and 4pm for printers etc.
Should be so simple, but it's not.
Good luck, and if you manage, perhaps you could share your settings.

Same Problem here. The Documentation is unclear what those Settings do or mean.

All digging and searching didn't show any clear instructions on this. I only found more people asking about it, who didn't get an answer on this.

Before you can execute your task, you need to prepare it. Actually, you don't need preparation timeslot, you can set "Permit to re-prepare task after run" checkbox, then choose targets and actors.
