Stock management

Hi everyone,

I was wondering if it is possible to use GLPI as a stock management tool? And if so, does anyone has some experience with it and can give some directions, guidelines, remarks, ... ?

What are your requirements for that use?
I assumed it meant just general management of inventory, but it seemed to broad a subject for me to make a reply.

We're having some small equipment (mice, keyboards, external hard disks, screens, ...) what we would like to keep organised in way where we can set so we can be notified when it reaches a specific number. So for instance at the beginning we're having, let's say 20 mice. Once our stock goes down to 5, we get a notification so we know we'll need to order more.

I think this was possible (in the past?) for toners for the printers. But I'm not sure it was also possible for other items.

And maybe it's not possible with GLPI.

Consumables and Cartridges both can be configured to have alert levels (how low the stock of a type of the item can go before an alert is sent). In GLPI 10, you can also have a target level defined for each type of cartridge and consumable as well. For example, with mice, you could want to keep 20 in stock (target threshold) but only reorder once you have 5 left in stock (alert threshold) because you get a bulk discount or to prevent frequent reordering.

Beyond that, if you use some other type, there are saved searches and saved search alerts. You can save a search that defines the available stock of an item, and then configure an alert for it which is based on a number of items. If you have a spare fleet of laptops for instance and you want to know when you have 5 or less left, you could search in Computers:
Type = Laptop
Status = Spare
Then, save the search by clicking the star icon.
Then, go to Tools > Saved searches and click on the saved search.
Go to the saved search alerts tab and add an alert.
When configuring the alert, you can specify the "<=" operator and then the value of "5".

Going further with the subject, is there a way to have a "set of devices? For example, a box containing 10 keyboards, and this box have an asset ID to print the labels/QR. Also rack number, row number, position ID in a warehouse. Can this be somehow managed?
