I love GLPI! I am in the process of changing over from various inventory/IP spreadsheets to GLPI and have a couple questions that I have not been able to find answers for in the documentation/wiki:
1) Does anyone know of a way to display or search ALL inventory items at once, from all categories?
The 'status' option displays deleted items as well, and the search fields/displayed fields cannot be customized (to show the inventory number) as far as I can tell.
2) If not, how do you determine the next available inventory number?
For the system we were using previously we assigned inventory numbers sequentially (example: 000001,000002,000003,000004 etc.) but I'm having a hard time determining what the next available inventory number would be when using GLPI.
Thanks!

I would use the Inventory Number field in GLPI to assign the inventory number you have been using and want to import from your spreadsheets.

I am using the Inventory Number field in GLPI, and have the items imported into GLPI. My goal is to get rid of the spreadsheets and use GLPI exclusively, but I am having trouble determining the next available inventory number just using GLPI.
Also, it would be really handy to be able to view all inventory items at once. Any ideas?

I have a huge spreadsheet as well that I have been trying to import into GLPI. In my case I am keeping the Inventory Number and Name fields the same as I can sort by Name and that gives me the last number used. As for the loss of Name field, I am using the Contact name instead to accommodate that loss.

you can import datas from csv files with the data_injection plugins.
it's only available for the 0.7 version only (and PHP5)

But even using this method you can only see the last number used for each category, which means looking at last number used for computers, last used for devices, last used for monitors, etc. before you can add an item.
Any ideas how you could view all categories at once?

tylswans,
Sorry I use a prefix of PC of computers, M for monitors, P for Printer etc. and therefore I don't have this issue. I am still a newbie with GLPI but I believe there isn't a way of knowing what number was used last in your case without going in each category.
Maybe you can go to Status tab and choose to show all records at once (999999 from the dropdown menu)?

The status option would work for us if status displayed the 'inventory number' field, but as far as I can tell the displayed fields are not customizable for the 'status' report.

At this point we are using the 'Public Notes' to keep track of the last used/next available inventory number, which means editing the public note each time we add an inventory item. This seems to work well for the time being.
Thanks for your suggestions!
