How to document modifications on a server ?

Hi,

is there a way to document the modifications on a server ?
I am searching a kind of log like this:

Feb 02 2003: changes registry key HKLM/....
Feb 04 2003: Installed new hotfix
Apr 02 2003: Change configuration of Active Directory

So if I get in trouble with the server, first  I have to determine how long the problem exists (logfiles, eventlog etc). Now I can backtrace and look if the problem exists since Feb 02 for example. Then I know that the problem must have todo with the registrykeychange.

In GLPI there is the item "historical". But this log is generated from glip and cannot be changed.

Thanx, Andy.

Thanx for that hint.  That is what I am looking for.

I do not use the ticket system, so I didn't know about it.....
