Hi,
GLPI 0.7 with OCS-inventory running.
Is it possible to assign computers automatically to a certain location?
I've got about 15 sites in one big domain.
I've added every location in the dropdown box at '->setup->dropdowns->location'
Each location has a certain string in the hostname of their computers.
(example: 12BRU456CER is CER service in the "brussels" office)
Is it possible to generate a rule to automatically assign all computers with "BRU" in their hostname to location Brussels? Or is there a better approach to do this?
Or would it be better to use entities for this?
Many tnx
Yves

solution : use entities and use rules to affect computers.

ok, sorry.
solution : use entities and use rules to affect computers.
Ok, I thought that would be the only way.
I hope entities don't restrict if I want global reports or so.
Many tnx

entities make separate entities.
You can do reports but you will have several items for one if it is used on several entities (softwares etc etc)
If you do not want to use entities, wth massive action you can assign easily a location to several computers.

ok, one more entity question.
I 've set up the needed entities and created the rules for automatic assignment.
Now I wonder, what about the existing machines in the database?
How can I get them updated to the correct entity?
Kind Regards

you cannot for the moment.
I am working on a transfer system to move computers from an entity to another

Ok, tnx.
No big deal now, testing phase.
I will remember to create the entities first when i go into production :-)
Kind regards & tnx for your time.
