How to lock user on items other than computer?

I am assuming the locks on some of the assets is to hard code, eg a user, to a specific device (computer) but I don't see this as an option on some of the other assets like monitor or phones?

Here we assign staff specific equipment that they will move with them with changing workstation location.  Staff can move 1-2 times a year based on workloads, projects they are on, etc. So my question is how do we hard code (lock) a user to some of these assets so we know in the future who is responsible for the device/asset?

Re: How to lock user on items other than computer?

I have also found locks on the FusionInventory side as well under General Setup but again only for (Computer, Printer & Network Devices). There is also a "Locked" when selecting an item under General->Agent Mgt. I have done some searching but not having much luck on any thing that describes these areas very well.

If you set a lock in the General Setup, will this stop that field from being imported or updated or both, eg on a new or existing item? Anyone know what the Locked is for?

Hi,
These locks you write about are manual edits you don’t want any automation (fusioninventory for instance) to modify. You are blocking its editing.

Don’t know about the other local you are talking. Maybe the one to avoid some fiel deben simultaneously edited?

Re: How to lock user on items other than computer?

Thanks for the confirmation makeijan on the locks.

I have a few follow-up questions:

1.  So is there  a difference if I set the lock on the computer/printer itself or if I set the lock from within the Fusion General Setup? I am assuming doing it in Fusion is just a more global way to restricting the checked field from being updated on future inventories.
2.  Is there any why to lock the assigned user to a monitor or phone, these 2 item types don't have a "locks" tab.

We assign staff their computer and monitors, we want to be able to look at any device and know, this person has it. We don't want staff to be changing swapping their equipment around.

Thanks

Re: How to lock user on items other than computer?

I notice if I lock the field from the Fusion setup, it locks it on the computer so that seems to answer my question 1.
Also if you manually select a user, this also locks the "User" field on the computer locks tab.

What I am not understanding, is if I disconnect a monitor from the Connections tab on a computer then it is displayed on the "Locked Items" on the Locks tab for that computer? If it is disconnected from the computer, then why would it be displayed as locked to the computer, this seems backwards? Almost seems like the dropdown disconnect should be Lock instead?
This seems to hard code an association between the computer and monitor, but the connections tab is then blank on both the computer and monitor?

I am trying to use all the features correctly with GLPI and Fusion and don't want to assume the only way to do this is to manually set every username manually on every item. It was nice that 100% (or close to it) of the items that were auto inventoried have the right user assigned. Now we just want to stop the "user" from being changed just by someone logging into our assigned computers or if someone decided they preferred their neighbors monitor and changed it with out authorization.

I am still testing the outcomes of moving equipment around to confirm we don't completely lose what equipment is assigned to which staff.

So if anyone has more info on this please let me know or steer me to some documentation, thanks.

Re: How to lock user on items other than computer?

Hi KRP,

I met exactly the same problem as you ! I found the solution, it is pretty easy once you found it :
Go in a Asset/Computer/[Your Computer/Server/Working Station which is also an Fusion Agent] :
-If there is no User entered, enter a User in Computer Table
-Then go in Table "Lock" : You can see that the third "Appliance - Name" is infact the User.

After that you can go in Administration/Fusion Inventory/General/General configuration/Lock and Lock the third "Appliance - Name" starting by the end.
Spoiling alert, the User is the third starting by the end for Printer and Network Device too.

Tadaaa !

I use GLPI 9.4.3 and Fusion Inventory    9.4+2.1

Have a nice day !

Re: How to lock user on items other than computer?

Thanks guillaumekk but I am not sure we are talking about the same thing. I figured out the computer/printer locking it was the other devices other that I was referring to.

I tried to follow your instructions but you lost me at;

"Then go in Table "Lock" : You can see that the third "Appliance - Name" is infact the User."

When you say Table Lock, I am assuming the locks tab on the computer itself, I don't see what you are referring to with "third Appliance - Name"?
My page has 2 sections "Locked Items" & "FusionInventory" which has these fields only;

Serial number
Inventory number
Alternate username
Alternate username number
Technician in charge of the hardware
Group in charge of the hardware
Update Source
Location
Domain
Network
Model
Type
Manufacturer
User
Group
Status
UUID

Then if I go to the Fusion General Setup again this name "Appliance - Name" is nowhere on the page.

You find the solution?  Same here, latest version of Fusion and GLPI

For my part, APPLIANCE plugin causing the issue.  Disable it and OK then

Re: How to lock user on items other than computer?

The solution is: Setup > General > Assets tab > 'Automatically update of the elements related to the computers' section.

Example:

If you want to lock user on items then set in "When connecting or updating" copy for User (user will be copy from computer after connecting or updating) and "do not delete" for "When disconnecting" - thus, even if an element is detached, the user will not be deleted.

If you don't want to load the user from the computer at all and set it up manually for each item - set "When connecting or updating" for User as "Do not copy" - user will be locked for items other than computer.

Re: How to lock user on items other than computer?

Hey all. Please tell me how can I block the Name field in Monitors? On computers, Name is locked when renaming.
GLPI 9.5.7
Fusion Inventory 9.5+4.1
Home - Assets - Computers in the Name field there is a padlock. I want to achieve the same result in the Home - Assets - Monitors Name field. Thank you.
