How to connect a patch-panel to an outlet and to a hub?

Hello there!

I have tried googling and forum search.  I found similar questions but no answers.

Well, lets we have: network card @ computer -> outlet @ wall -> patch-panel @ rack -> hub.
I can connect a port of the patch-panel to a port of the hub. But than I unable to connect the port of the patch-panel to the outlet because it has been "used" already. Meantime I can connect network card of the computer to both the outlet and the patch-panel port. And if I changing the location of the computer I have to point again new outlet and new corresponding port of the patch-panel. Looks strange for me. What am I missing?

Best regards, Paul.

Re: How to connect a patch-panel to an outlet and to a hub?

The only way I found is :
creating 1 port for each physical plug ont the patch pannel,

Probably something like
IN-01
IN-02
IN-03
...
OUT-01
OUT-02
OUT-03
...

Then :  SERVER to Patch panel port IN-01 and Patch panel port OUT-01 to switch

Other ideas?.

OK, now five years later I'm ready to answer my own question. The idea is that you name your outlets same as your ports of a path-panel. They are hard-linked.

Dear PaulStogov, I have same question, I draw a picture to explain it:
1. What do you mean by "They are hard-linked"?  If I name the Port1OnPanelA as "OutletA", what will happen?
2. How to do this to Port6OnFiberA and Port1OnFiberB?
Thank you!

[Sorry, my English is poor]

Now I use this plugin to manage patch-panel.
https://github.com/PR-gh/patchpanel

Now it officially support 9.4 and can work with 9.5.

PatchPanel GLPI plugin
https://github.com/PR-gh/patchpanel/blo … /README.md

Add Patch Panel

Manage parallel with Network Port to permit physical connection vs existing logical connection
Patch Panel are Rackable type
Use Netpoints and NetworkPort

Yes, you wrote above, but I thought this plugin was just an alternative. However, it looks like I need to add it and test it. Thank you very much smile

Re: How to connect a patch-panel to an outlet and to a hub?

Had a long time before I understood what the idea was behind. :$

I'll try explain it a bit how I did it. Maybe others can put some inspiration out of it.
Let me know when I'm using it wrong, I couldn't find much info (manual) about this plugin.

My wire example

   1. Rack 1 >>> SwitchA >>> 15 (interface)
   2. Rack 1 >>> PatchPanel PP1 >>> 2 (port)
   3. Room 1 >>> 2 (outlet)
   4. Room 1 >>> Computer1 >>> 1 (interface)

What I've done

   1. I've created a patchpanel 'PP1' in Assets >> Pachpanel.
            1.1 In this patchpanel, I've add 24 ports (1 > 24).
1.2 I changed the location of these port (fe 2 to 'Room 1')

   2. When I open Computer1 (in Room 1):
2.1 I link the interface with the Network outlet 2
2.2 I connect the interface with SwitchA interface 15

   3. When I open the Switch:
3.1 The switchport 15 is nicely connect to Computer1 (from step 4)
3.2 Don't try to connect the network port with network outlet. (this number is already taken in step 4)
The trick is to use in the left menu the button 'Patch Panel', if you want to see this side.

Hi Bron,

I'm searching for a thing you describe to, but I can't reproduce your solution.

I don't have a Item Patchpanel under Assets? Is this an Plugin? (I upgrade from 9.33 to 9.51 a few days ago)

Yes, it's a plugin, as i said in #7.

But I cannot make a clearer description because my English is very poor.

However, there is still one thing that can remind you that this plug-in needs to be installed manually (like the version before 9.3), and it will not appear in the 9.5 plug-in market.

And if you want to apply it to version 9.5, you need to make a little modification. Someone answered me in my second link.

Thanks to PR-gh, the author of the plugin.

Hello, I am also new to this, I have version 9.4.5 and I have not managed to install it, the process is the same as in v. 9.5.1 or is it done differently?

Re: How to connect a patch-panel to an outlet and to a hub?

salutations wink

Re: How to connect a patch-panel to an outlet and to a hub?

Hello, I have two questions in case someone can help me:

I don't understand how to make the link between:

from the switch to the patch panel and your computer

>> sw - pp1 - pc <<

The other question is whether you can put a patch panel in the 2 racks and each one connects to a different network port.
I don't understand French, all the text comes from the google translator.

Thanks in advance, hope you can help me with one of the two questions.

greetings

Re: How to connect a patch-panel to an outlet and to a hub?

The patchpanel plugin does not currently support glpi10.
glpi10 has cable management capabilities and will be further enhanced in 10.1,
I personally recommend that you try the new approach and give feedback.
