We are investigating the market for asset management software that may fit our needs.
Background:
We want to find and integrate a tool management system to handle tools (like drills etc.) in a factory.
We want to overview the tool stock and record the use of the tools and get some statistics about it.
My question is basically how much can we customize GLPI to fit our needs?
Can you change the menu titles “Computers” to “Drills”, or property title. Or add new inventories in addition to Monitors, phones etc.
Are you able to store/view runtime statistic for each tool/drill?
Is there any API where we can push data from each tool, like runtime and other statistics?

But I still have som unanswered questions:

In addition to common fields, you can add generic fields to generic objects (with fields/field.constant.php modification), see documentation
For external data sources, you can import csv with datainjection plugin or use webservices plugin and develop your own importation script
