How to configure email notifications

Hello everyone I installed GLPI yesterday and try to configure the email notifications but I can't,  I go to configurations> Notifications> email configurations (Type the email information correctly) and when I try to send an email test, the test fail.

I didn't do any other configurations, I appreciate your help.

Have you set :
way of sendings emails ?
smtphost ?
port ?

smtp login&password ?

Hello LaDenrée my installations is in Windows 7 pro (32 bits)
the GLPI Version is:GLPI 0.84.7
Email Server: Fortimail 200
I set it up all the fields correctly, 
My configuratios is SMTP
Port 25
I checked the email server's log, and I didn't find the email request,  I configured an sniffer yesterday to see the traffic (request) between the GLPI and the server and,  It wasn't sent any request to the email server when I send the email test.
