regrouping software versions

hello,
I'm new to the GLPI topic so my question is probably rather stupid,
but so far i had a real hard time finding decent docus on the topic.
Today i installed the FusionInventoryPlugin on our GLPI 0.80.1, no real problems so far.

however some softwareitems in my inventory come in lots of different versions,
currently i have 7 softwareitems for AcrobatReader:
8.1.2
8.1.3
9
9
9.3.3
9.4.4
9.4.5

what i would like to have is just one AdobeReader-item with several versions in it.
of course i can always go down to databasebase and assign the glpi_softwareversions.softwares_id
manually, however i would prefer to do it within GLPI.
google gave me the hint of using software dictionaries to do the trick, but even after spending
two hours on the topics i have no idea what they do at all. couldn't find any docu on it either.

ideas anyone?
