Groups from LDAP

How does the Import Groups from LDAP work? When I click on Import groups, I get a list that starts like this

Group Group DN Destination entity Child entities
        Restaurant/QSR POS TCA:
        PPSC Support TCA:
        PeopleSoft/Cognos Support TCA:

As you can see, the group (department) names show up under "Group DN", but nothing is imported under "Group"

I get a whole bunch of these errors in debug mode (apparently one for each department):

PHP Warning: ldap_read(): Search: Invalid DN syntax in /usr/local/glpi/inc/authldap.class.php at line 1342
PHP Warning: ldap_get_entries() expects parameter 2 to be resource, boolean given in /usr/local/glpi/inc/common.function.php at line 850

We really don't use groups in LDAP, but the "department" field corresponds to a responsibility area for groups, so I set LDAP authentication settings for groups as follows:

Search type :        In users
User attribute containing its groups :    department
Filter to search in groups :    (blank)
Group attribute containing its users :    (blank)
Use DN in the search :    No

We may just end up creating some groups to put people in, since we have more departments than we really need in groups... if that's the case, is there a way to assign groups to users based on their category or other ldap attribute?

Thanks!
