Software acros Entities
Can software be shared across entities? For example, if sofware is created in the root entity, can it then be used by entities under the root entity?

No.
Entities are totaly separated in 0.70.
Global (recursive) objects will appear in next version (Supplier, Contract, Contact, Documents, KB) but not software. It's a very complex feature.
