How to get serial numbers in printers??

HI,

I have all my 98 computer using glpi by now .but I also want to include all my printers.
Then some problems appeared.

The system doesnt detect the serial numbers of the printers and also I cannot distinguish which are local printers and which network ones.
I am doing manually... there is any method to do it automatically??
I checked in OCS and it detects when a printer is LPT1, so that should mean is local printer...but nowhere appears afterwards in glpi...
any suggestion?
