Hi,
I am using GLPI version 10.0.12 with the latest GLPI inventory pluigin V1.3.4.
The automatic inventory function works out really well and a lot of information is stored in the Components list of each Computer/Server (like serial-number of disks or RAM).
A big use-case for me would be to find out in which server or device a certain disk is located by searching for the serial number. But I cant find a possibility in the GUI to query this information.
Best would be the main search-bar on the top right corner.
There is the possibility to query different fields from all devides with the search functionality (where you can kind of create your specific query), but in the components section I could not find any field which queries the serial numbers of disks or RAM.
I found a Topic "SQL query to get Serial Number of hard disk drive"
_https://forum.glpi-project.org/viewtopic.php?id=170174
to query from DB.
The information about the disks serial numbers can be found in the table: glpi_items_deviceharddrives
Is there a possibility in the GUI to query this information?

Best would be the main search-bar on the top right corner.

Thanks for your comment.
I am quiet new to the GLPI project and my skills leak on configuration or correct usage of the tool.
I will try to describe my problem more in detail.
I have some servers and Terminals, which I can choose under "Assets" --> "Computers"
Choosing one device shows then the details of this single device. And in the Tab "Components" a lot of details to the machine itself (like all hard-disk/drives or RAM) are visible to me.
I can see the serial numbers of my hard-disks/drives of the computer.
But when searching for this serial number (or parts of the serial number) of the drive nothing is returned from the search possibilities I found.

From the view of computers thats not possible.
However you can see it here /front/item_device.php?itemtype=Item_DeviceHardDrive and from there see which PC it is
But this list is not searched by the quicksearch you mentioned.

Exactly,
would it make sense for the GLPI project to implement also that information from the components list is searchable in this quick-search or at least a possibility to search it somehow (on the front-end without using the DB)?
Is there an feature request necessary(or something) where this kind of topics will be discussed?

from glpi GUI using this URL
h t t p s /www.Myglpiserver/front/item_device.php?is_deleted=0&as_map=0&browse=0&criteria%5B0%5D%5Blink%5D=AND&criteria%5B0%5D%5Bfield%5D=10&criteria%5B0%5D%5Bsearchtype%5D=contains&criteria%5B0%5D%5Bvalue%5D=%09WD-WXE508S50470&criteria%5B1%5D%5Blink%5D=AND&criteria%5B1%5D%5Bitemtype%5D=0&criteria%5B1%5D%5Bmeta%5D=1&itemtype=Item_DeviceHardDrive&order%5B%5D=ASC
you type your serial in the search box and glpi returns server name or any item associated to this Hard drive.

Thanks LaDenrée,
This link solves my question.
For disk serial numbers:
https://<your_glpi_server>/front/item_device.php?itemtype=Item_DeviceHardDrive
For RAM serial numbers:
https://<your_glpi_server>/front/item_device.php?itemtype=Item_DeviceMemory
With those links you can query for the Characteristic-Serial number.
Those item characteristics are not easily accessible in GLPI (at least I could not find a link to those queries in the "Setup"-->"Components" or somewhere else).
For further itemtype queries please check the existing .php files in the .../front/-folder in the installation directory.
