limit results

Hi,
I would like to limit the results of searches that users can perform. That is, if a technician creates a filter and chooses to see all the tickets for 10 years, he would return a query that would cause a fairly large load for the B.D.
Can this search be limited for a maximum number of results?
I have located limit the default search results per page, but I want to indicate a maximum number of results.
