Licensing Question

Hi,

We're currently using GLPI 0.80.2 with OCS 1.02 running on a Windows 2003 server which runs XAMPP.

We are looking to use GLPI with OCS to track and record license usage. I have successfully configured OCS and GLPI to pull across only the desired software from OCS which works great. The problem we have is that Windows Server 2003 is listed as different versions in the software category so we have 4 different types:

Microsoft Windows Server 2003 R2 Standard Edition
Microsoft Windows Server 2003 R2 Standard x64 Edition
Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition
Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Web Edition

Assuming we then have 10 licenses to cover these servers is it possible to group them all under lets say 'Microsoft Windows Server 2003' and then have the different types listed under that? In that way we could assign 10 licenses to 'Microsoft Windows Server 2003' and based on the license usage of the different types it would calculate the number of licenses used.

I have attempted to modify the software/operating system dictionaries in GLPI thinking this was their purpose(?) but I can't get it to work.

Kind regards,

Gareth.

Re: Licensing Question

To group software, you must use Software's dictionaries.
You have examples here http://www.glpi-project.org/wiki/doku.p … ftwares_en

CentOS 6.5 - CentOS 7.x
PHP 5.6 - PHP 7.x - MySQL 5.6  - MariaDB 10.2 + APC + oOPcache
GLPI from 0.72 to dev version
Certifiée ITIL (ITV2F, ITILF, ITILOSA)

Re: Licensing Question

Thanks for the link, I have just tried the following.

In 'Inventory' > 'Software' I deleted all references of Windows 2003 server, I purged them and then selected all computers chose OCSNG - Unlock Software and posted the change.

I then created the following rule in 'Administration' > 'Dictionaries'.

New global, software dictionary rule.
Name: Microsoft Windows Server 2003
Description: Microsoft Windows Server 2003
Logical Operator: OR
Active: Yes

Criteria: Software
Condition: is
Reason: Microsoft Windows Server 2003 R2 Standard Edition

Criteria: Software
Condition: is
Reason: Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition

Criteria: Software
Condition: is
Reason: Microsoft Windows Server 2003 R2 Standard x64 Edition

Criteria: Software
Condition: is
Reason: Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Web Edition

Action: Software
Action Type: Assign
Value: Microsoft Windows Server 2003

I tested the rule using the 'test' button and it appears to work fine.

I then went to 'Inventory' > 'Computers', selected them all chose force synchronise and posted the change. After this was complete I did not have a 'Microsoft Windows Server 2003' group and the individual software entries came back for the different installations.

Am I missing something?

Kind regards,

Gareth.

Re: Licensing Question

Ok, so with the existing rule I created I went into 'Administration' > 'Dictionaries' > 'Software Dictionaries' and selected the options to 'replay the dictionary rules'. I then went back to 'Inventory Software' and the software had correctly moved into the 'Microsoft Windows Server 2003' group.

So I'm not sure if it should have moved when I did a force sync but at least I know a work around.

Another quick question though if I click the 'Inventory' > 'Software' and 'Installation tab for the 'Microsoft Windows Server 2003' group is it possible for me to change the displayed columns so I can include the Operating System name. Basically I would just like to be able to see which version of 2003 server is installed on the installations tab.

Regards,

Gareth.

Re: Licensing Question

Hi dval55

At what stage are you with the configuration, have to configured the OCSNG mode plugin to sync GLPI with OCS?

Re: Licensing Question

Yes i have configured to sync GLPI 0.80.2 with OCS Ver. 1.3.3

I don't want to import  hot fixes, service packs, security updates etc.

Thank you
