Hard drive serial number from OCS

Is GLPI not pulling hard drive serial numbers from OCS during import?  My organization is now requiring we track hard drives based on serial number and would really be useful to have that be searchable in GLPI.  If it's not there I'd be willing to write a plugin to do this if someone has examples or docs on how a plugin of this nature would be written.  I haven't yet written a plugin so my knowledge on the subject is very minimal.
