Connections between computer and network device

I am sure I am missing something simple but, was hoping I could get a little guidance on working with networking connections.  I can't seem to get a computer to connect to my switch (networking device).  I was able to do it on version 0.72.4 but, I have a fresh install (clean and no previous data) of .78.5 (remi repo) now and can't get it to work.

any thoughts?

self-resolved.  Documentation (http://www.glpi-project.org/wiki/doku.php?id=en:faq) states "enter an asterisk".  And thus a list of computers to connect display.
