User list not populated, cannot assign users to ticket.

And as a consequence, I cannot set a ticket to "Processing" status. No one has updated the GLPI, and the database tables appear to be OK. Has anyone seen this before? Do you have a suggestion as to where I should look for the problem? Could it be related to changes in the Active Directory server (we use AD for authentication)?
