Upgrading 72.4 to .78

I'm currently using GLPI 72.4 and can't wait to upgrade to .78. I'm just not sure about the initial process. Do I unpack the file over top of the current glpi installation or unpack the file and then copy it over top of the current installation?

I just upgraded from .71.5 to .78 on my test machine and had no problems. Basically, you extract the file right on top of the old installation. When you go to your URL, it will automatically begin the update process.

Remember, before you do this BACK UP your database and the directory where glpi is installed!..!

No worries....

Even though it is a pretty simple process, I would still test... I am using VBox on Windows 7 to run my test servers. I must have done that upgrade about 4 times now and no problems. But I am still going to test out different scenarios before I move it to production.

I do like this new version .78

I would love to test it but we just don't have the resources (pretty small IT department).

I performed the upgrade this moring as per instructions ... Backup glpi folder and database especially and everything went fine except that all of the plugins were gone. I did DeActivate them all prior but I do not see them to reactivate them. Any ideas?

I am not entirely sure, but I believe the plugins must be compatible with the version first. Then if they are, re-install. I only used one plug-in so far, and that was "rooms" or "salles."

I haven't re-enabled it.

You don't need a lot of resources to build a test environment...If you have a decent computer, download VirtualBox (free) from http://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads

You can run it on your Windows workstation if you want. Then as a guest machine, install a duplicate of your production environment. For instance, I am running solaris 10 with an AMP stack. I Just load up everything virtually, test it out and then wipe clean when I want to start over. Doesn't cost me a penny.

I am also running a PIII (yeah...Pentium THREE) with 768 memory and Solaris 10. Loaded up GLPI on this for testing and it ran beautifully. Mind you, I don't use any sort of GUI. It is all command line for me, so that saves on resources.

I have restored back to backup and have tried the upgrade again. No Luck. Some of the Plugins are compatable but some are. Perhaps that is the issue. I have upgraded several times before without issue. This time I am not so lucky. I guess I will wait till all of the Plugins that I am curreently using are compatable and try again.

If no plugins show up, delete all the plugins from the plugins folder on the computer. Then find compatible versions and copy them back into the folder. Even if they are deactivated, GLPI will try to load any folders inside the plugins folder.

Ok ... I downloaded all of my plugins (plugins listed below) again. Some of my plugins did not have a newer version but some did. I do realize that some of the Plugins listed below are not listed as compatable with GLPI 0.78 but I thought I would upgrade all of my plugins to the latest version for now and then decided whether to move on without the plugins that were not compatable or not.

So here is what I did and what happened ... I backed up the DB ... Then I moved all of my plugins to another folder ... Then I extracted all of the new plugins using tar ... The result after restarting Apache even was a Blank Webpage ... I even tried using tar to extract the new plugins over the existing with the same result.

What gives?

Remove all plugins and only install the compatible ones.
