Rack Plugin - Reserve RU

I need to be able to mark rack locations as reserved in the racks management plugin, as they are not filled with an asset at the moment but have been reserved for future expansion of a system.  Is there a way to mark a RU as reserved?  I tried creating a generic device, but once it is assigned to a rack location, it can't be used again.  Any help is appreciated.
