You don't add a serial number for a software but for a license.
After choosing yoiur software, you can add a license on which you can indicate number of license, serial number...
The inventory of OCS only indicates installations of a software : it's a constation.
Licenses are to be manually managed
CentOS 6.5 - CentOS 7.x
PHP 5.6 - PHP 7.x - MySQL 5.6 - MariaDB 10.2 + APC + oOPcache

GLPI 0.72.3
I 've got an apropiate problem:
We use Software that ist published under GPL like gimp
is there an easy way to define an unlimited License for all installations?
I am asking because of the mass of installations ... (5500 Computers)
With kind regards

Hello
Thanks to the Developer of GLPI -- I think it is a great work you are doing.
Thanks @ jfarschman
I'm not good in english, so i hope you can understand me.
if i add the "unlimited" in the Field (Number) nothing happens to the Installations (computer ->Software ->kategorised Software -> Software -Field License is still empty)
My Problem is in deed a little bit bigger than your answer
GLPI generates for each SW-Version an own Software Ikon like "Gimp 2.6.4" and "Gimp 2.6.2" and each Software Ikon in several enteties.
But i have got 1 unlimited License "GNU Image Manipulation Program"
This License Problem is simular to Commercial Software:
For example: i have bought several Licenses "Adobe Acrobat Professional 9" but GLPI generates several Softwareicons with different subversions of "Adobe Acrobat Pro 9" in different enteties, so how do i combine my Licenses with the installations?
I Know if ther ist a single License i would use in the Field "Number:" 1 and in the Field "Assigned to the computer:" i choose the special Computer.
But i have aprox. 6.000 Computers in several Departments (Enteties).
I Know it would be much easier to handle the Licenses if i would not use enteties, but i have to. I have several Departments an different administration profiles.
One big Problem is that one of the Departments is sharing Licenses with several others, But others have their own Licenses too ...
... anyone who understand me? ... any Idea to solve my little tiny Problem?
... perhaps i did not understand the funktion of Licensing.
Thanks

Thanks a lot ... i will try
The point is: i have to convince a lot of people to use this tool to Manage our Licenses and inventorys so it has to work quite well.
These people stick very hard to commercial produkts. Also nobody of this project goup incl. me knows much about Licensing. And i am no IT-Specialist. I'm only a semi stupid user.
so i think i will sign in here with more dummy questions quite a lot of times.
with kind reguards
