Hi,
We just got GPLI up and running on a Windows 2003 Active Directory domain, everything is running well.
Some questions from a newbie:
1) What is the easiest way to get the AD domain workstations imported in the inventory of GLPI and briefly how to do that?
2)From what I gather now, one way is to install the OCS agent on all the workstations. Can OSC agents sync directly with GLPI? Or, do you need a OSC Inventory Managment server running to manage the OSC agents that then syncs with GLPI? If the latter, why not just use OSC for inventory?
3) Can OCS Inventory Management Server be installed on the same server as GLPI? That is, can they use the same Apache and MySQL services and all that?
Cheers.

2) you need ocs + glpi to have a complete solution. OCS do the inventory with it's agent and GLPI is used to manage day after day your IT. Have a look on here to know what you could do with GLPI :http://glpi-project.org/spip.php?article53
3) yes

Expanding on JMD's response:
1) push out OCS via GP or login script (more info at the OCS website)
2) GLPI queries the OCS database for the information. No OCS = No inventory in GLPI. Personally, I prefer the way GLPI handles asset information than ocs. Much more manageable. You can not edit the ocs database, but searching for information (software, hardware, which user uses which pc) is a breeze with GLPI.

Thank you for your fast replys! Good stuff here.
I got the OCS server installed using the 1.01 installer and AD workstation agents are syncing beautifully!
Now how would I setup GLPI from the existing OCS's Apache server?
GLPI runs from a local browser path after I copied it to the "C:\Program Files\OCS Inventory NG\xampp\htdocs" web root folder.
I would like to make a internal DNS entry for GLPI, so users can browse to "glpi.domainxx.com" but OCS is currently using port 80. Do OSC and GLPI need to run on two different ports?

You need to make a seperate alias for glpi and ocs. Just make a dns entry for the server itself and you can either go to http://servername/glpi or http://servername/ocsreports .
I dont use xampp so unfortunately cant tell you how you can make those alias entries.

I have installed GLPI with OCS. Using the steps in the documentation, simlply export the GLPI folder into the HTDOCS folder so it looks like this C:\OSCInventory\xampp\htdocs\glpi. Open a browser and typ the IP of your server and glpi. You'll get the setup wizard. The only tricky part is setting up the database. You'll want to create a login on MyPHPAdmin for glpi so it can create a database and access the OCS database. From a browser, type the IP address of your OCS server. You should get the XAMPP default page. Click on MyPHPAdmin link towards the bottom on the left. After clicking that, you should see a link called Privileges. Once you click the link, it should become clear what the next step is which is to create a user. When you get to the step where you create the glpi database, you'll want to use the credentials that you created. Oh, one important point. When you create the user, make sure you select Any from the Host drop down.
I'm actually here trying to get information on how to sync OCS and GLPI.
