inventory number generation and fusioninventory

Hi,

when I invent computer with fusioninventory there is now inventory number generated. When I try it manualy I got a error message.
How could I generate the numbers?

I see the Inventory Number is named in the DB as otherserial. The entry is "No Asset Information". For the invented machine I made an entry direct in the DB and set the flied on locked.

But how I could find a better solution?
