Team, we've got a scenario here where we're running the FusionInventory on the VM Server and the VM hosts themselves. For example, let's use 1 VM Server running 3 VM's running on Scientific Linux QEMU/KVM.
The Master server lists all VM's running on the box. When the VM's report in, their serial number is listed as NULL aka "not specified" which glpi ONLY allows one device per serial number. So in this scenario, you would only find 1 of the 3 VM's listed in hardware inventory. IF you rename the NULL SN to say "VM-Number-1", then the 2nd VM would show up in inventory on the next fusion update. No two unique hardware inventory items can share the same SN. UDID for each VM has a unique value.
VM's do not report in a particular Serial Number so how do we setup GLPI to inventory and display all of our VM's without having to manually update devices that come in with a NULL SN by default.
We're running GLPI: 0.83.4
Thanks,
-Brent Maier

For others in the same boat, here is what we have done. We created an Equipment import and link rule and inserted it just before "find serial in all glpi", specific for VM's. UDID is present & exists, Model is "KVM" & "Not Specified". Then link if possible, else create device. This will catch those oddball VM's that are coming in with unique UUID's but no SN.

You can too add in blacklist 'NULL' value for serial number
