what's the meaning of "entity" in glpi?

anyone can tell me what's the usage of "entity" in glpi.

you'd better give me an example for it.

An entity is a financial independent structure.
By example :
You have a national company but also many regional companies.
Each regional company manage their own float of computers, but the national company want to known how many computers are installed.
An user of the national company can see all the computers in child entities, but an user in a child entity can only see computers in the child entity.
