Slowness, and "There was an error sending this mail!"

One of the devs set me straight that I needed to post a new thread, so here goes:

I'm Running GLPI 0.68.3-2 on OpenSuse 10.2, PHP 5.2.0, MySQL 5.0.26. I've turned acpi=off, and turned off powersaved.

I've run in debug mode, and found there is an e-mail problem.  This isn't a problem on the server accepting the e-mail though, it just seems to be GLPI trying to send e-mail.  I've found that after the mail fails sending, it can then establish a connection and works properly, but only for a limited time.  After leaving the screen for a while and coming back (to the same session) to modify or post, the e-mail problem happens again.  It's like a thread is asleep and won't wake up.  When it finally does, it works fine.  It then goes back to sleep and happens all over again.

Your assistance is appreciated.

Here is the error:

Re: Slowness, and "There was an error sending this mail!"

Well, I should say our 'e-mail' server doesn't have a problem accepting mail via SMTP.   It seems to be on the GLPI box where it hangs when trying to talk to the SMTP server.  Our e-mail server and GLPI server are separate.

Re: Slowness, and "There was an error sending this mail!"

I checked the sender settings, and things look fine.  I've updated to the latest stable version 0.70, and intermittently am having the same types of errors:
Error in sending the email
SMTP Error: Data not accepted.

Please advise.

I had the same problem b4 and solved it this way.
I installed a local mailserver on the machine running glpi and let mail relay to our smtp server.
So glpi mails first get delivered localy and postfix takes care of the relay to the real smtp server.

Kind regards
Y

Re: Slowness, and "There was an error sending this mail!"

After backing up GLPI database, and installing (fresh) OpenSUSE 10.3, restored to newest version of GLPI=no more problems!..
