after login this is what's displayed:
I'm using an admin level account. this has worked in the past and I'm not really sure what changed. I have tried looking this situation up, but it seems to be too vague for a proper solution to be found. the behaviour is replicated regardless of browser (I tried Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox and Edge).

Thank you for your reply, I have seen that post already and checked that everything on the list is installed. Sadly, the issue persists. it's also slightly different, as I don't receive any error, my login is accepted, it just doesn't load the interface.
I've seen a screenshot of a self test in someone's post, but I don't know how to run it/access it.

Do you have this problem with all logins or only ldap or only one ?
Did you check the logs ?

- there are only local users, no LDAP integration;
- tried with both admin accounts, other users are not permitted to login; both logins have the same output;
- there are no addons/plugins;
- this is only used as a manual inventory system for now;
where do I find the logs and what should I be looking for?

glpi/files/_log
check the files for php, login, mysql after you have tried to login and see if there are new lines

I've run
mysqlcheck --auto-repair -u root -p glpi glpi_crontasklogs
and
mysqlcheck -u root -p --auto-repair --check --all-databases
both said the tables are ok
after restart, same problem is encountered.

nothing new added to any of the logs. old entries still there, but I assume that's logical.

define("GLPI_SCHEMA_VERSION","9.1.3");
define('GLPI_YEAR', '2017');

It's not the best or really correct version but can you show what version is mentioned in /var/www/glpi/CHANGELOG.md (not CHANGELOG.txt)

that file only has this in it:
See on the website for the changelog : http://glpi-project.org
however in /var/www/glpi/config/define.php I found the following information:
// Current version of GLPI
define("GLPI_VERSION","9.1.6");
define("GLPI_SCHEMA_VERSION","9.1.3");
define('GLPI_YEAR', '2017');

php -i
or
php -v
I'm not sure if 9.1.6 can work with php 7 but i'm not sure with the ubuntu 17.10 php version.

I now realise how little information I have given in my first post, I'll be more careful in the future.
regarding what works and what doesn't, this installation worked fine until a couple of days ago when I decided to set up a static IP in another range and install all the available updates. I have since changed it back, but now I get the above.

You changed your ip setting back but not the software version or what do you mean exactly.

I don't know if 9.1.6 is compatible with php 7.1.
You could update to 9.2.3 it can 7.1 and 7.2 also see. (9.2: GLPI now requires minimum version of 5.6 for PHP, but has also been tested with PHP 7, 7.1 and even 7.2!)
Please check all https://glpi-install.readthedocs.io/en/ … sites.html
BUT I believe you have only missing php extensions see also in prerequisites.

is there a way to update via CLI without reinstalling GLPI altogether?
I've tried accessing /update/update.php via the broswer and I get redirected to /front/central.php where again, nothing is displayed.

ok, so I managed to fix this. here's what I did:
I've run "php -m" and checked the installed modules against the list here: https://glpi-install.readthedocs.io/en/ … sites.html
then I've used "apt-get install php7.1-curl" to install all the missing modules (replace php version and extension as needed).
KKAdmin, thank you very much for your help, it's appreciated. You've pushed me in the right direction and I fixed this now!
