LDAP errors after Ubuntu upgrade

I upgraded Ubuntu from 14.04 to 16.04 recently.  Since 16.04 no longer includes PHP5, I then had to re-install PHP5 to make OCS happy.  Did that, and OCS now works fine.  Then I turned attention to GLPI.  My LDAP login didn't work, but I tried the built-in GLPI login, and it was fine.  Everything in the system itself still seems fine, except for the authentication.  It says "The LDAP extension of your PHP parser isn't installed.  Impossible to use LDAP as external source of connection"   However, PHP LDAP is installed (I double checked).  It may be a long shot, but has anyone managed to successfully run this on Ubuntu 16.04?  Any ideas?

Thanks!
